After medical school, Dr. Olenec completed his internship and internal medicine residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He returned to Rush University Medical Center for his gastroenterology fellowship, where he received specialized training in interventional procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound. 

Dr. Olenec worked as an instructor at the University of Wisconsin and in private practice at Sarasota Memorial Hospital prior to joining Anne Arundel Gastroenterology Associates. Dr. Olenec played water polo in college, has competed in marathons, and has completed an Ironman triathlon.
