A SIBO test, or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth test is used to measure the hydrogen and or methane gases in your small intestine. The small intestine is part a long tube that runs from the stomach to the anus. Roughly 90% of the nutrients your body absorbs from the food you eat occurs in the small intestine. In a healthy gut, certain bacteria help you digest your food. Additionally, good bacterial help by producing vitamins like vitamin K and folic acid. They also protect your intestines, keeping out bad bacteria.
