It can be easy to become over-excited about a potentially delicious meal. Sometimes the lasagna looks too delicious to have a reasonably sized bite, in which case you might take a bite that takes you forever to chew and swallow. However, those should be the only circumstances where difficulty with swallowing is normal. Certainly, it is difficult to swallow that first bite of turkey on Thanksgiving, but not on a regular basis or for an unusual amount of times. More than twice can be a sign that your difficulty swallowing could be Dysphagia, or something more.

Dysphagia is a disease that makes swallowing difficult. It may take more time and effort to move food or liquids from your mouth to your stomach. Sometimes, swallowing may actually become impossible. Occasional dysphagia may be caused by eating too fast or not chewing correctly, this type of dysphagia isn’t necessarily a cause for concern. However, if this occurs more and more often, or if swallowing becomes painful you may have a more severe type of dysphagia.
