The gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ that is located directly below the liver. It helps the digestive system by storing bile and sending concentrated amounts of it into the small intestine for exit when necessary. Bile is a fluid that helps the body digest fats. The liver produces bile and sends it to the gallbladder to be stored until it is needed for digestion.
